In order for a better construction of Elementary Education,teachers’ professional development cannot be ignored.However,teaching reflection plays a vital part in the teachers’ professional development.According to the domestic researches which have already been conducted,most of them are intended for in-service teachers while there are few about pre-service teachers,especially about pre-service English teachers.Most normal universities offer the practicum to the normal school students so that they can gain practical teaching experience and help them to convert their role from a university student to a teacher easily and smoothly.Many researchers hold a belief that teaching reflection is an important and efficient way for normal school students to facilitate the teachers’ professional development during the process of taking part in the practicum.However,there are many ways that can help pre-service teachers to conduct teaching reflection such as writing teaching journal,watching classroom video,communication and discussion between teachers etc.Compared to the other two traditional methods to conduct teaching reflection,the method of teaching reflection by classroom video is relatively new,which was put forward at the end of the last century.However,teaching reflection by classroom video wasn’t brought to the forefront,This research selects a pre-service English teacher as research participant who has finished the practicum.This research can be divided into three stages:preliminary testing stage,adjustment stage and testing stage.At least 3 classes of the pre-service teacher were recorded by video.At each stage,two of the reflection journals are required.One is written before watching her own teaching video the other one is written after watching her own teaching video.At the end of the practicum,the pre-service teacher is required to hand in 6 reflection journals.The features of 6 reflection journals are analyzed to show the features of the reflection before and after the pre-service teacher watch her teaching video according to the frame table designed by Hao(2015).And the reflective ability before and after the pre-service teacher watch her teaching video is analyzed by the framework of teaching reflection content designed by Di(2010)to identify whether there is a change of reflective ability.This dissertation is aimed at exploring the following research questions based on the classroom video:1)What are the features of teaching reflection before pre-service teachers watch their own teaching video and after they watch their teaching video?2)Is there any change of their reflective ability under the circumstance of watching and not watching their own teaching video?If there is,what is it?As a result,before the pre-service teacher watched the video,there are two dimensions in teaching journals including teachers&curriculum,teachers&students while after the pre-service teacher watched the video,there are five dimensions including teachers&curriculum,teachers&students,students&curriculum,students&students,teachers&classroom culture.Through the evaluation framework of reflective ability designed by Gemaine L.Taggart,Alfred P.Wilson(2008),the results show that the reflective ability of the pre-service teacher is improved after she watched her own taching video.As for the reflective content,before watching video,there are 2 aspects including classroom teaching and teacher development;after watching video,there are 3 aspects including classroom teaching,student development and teacher development.The coverage of the reflective content is wider compared to that before watching teaching video.Besides,the reflective level changes from technical level to practical level.Both of the reflective process is mainly about describing problems while the proportion of discovering problems and analyzing problems has risen.Through this research,it can be found that based on the reflective method of watching pre-service teachers’ own teaching video,the reflective ability can be improved.The writer hopes that the role of watching teaching video can be paid more attention to in practicum in order to help pre-service teachers reflect on their teaching more efficiently.
