| With the development of society and science,popular science works become an important channel for people to understand the world.Under the background of globalization,translation of popular science texts helps researches and findings spread all over the world,which not only promotes the development of the popularization of science,but also accelerates the progress of science and technology.This thesis,with Peter Newmark’s text typology theory as its theoretical basis and the E-C translation of Until the End of Time as its research object,aims at analyzing the text types of popular science texts and exploring the methods and strategies of translating popular science texts based on semantic translation and communicative translation methods.The main content of the text is to explore the possible origins and endings of life,including a wide range of fields,from natural sciences such as physics,biology,mathematics,and chemistry to humanities such as philosophy.Its language is vivid and its content is rich and interesting.Apart from professional knowledge,there are also the author’s thoughts about the universe and life.This thesis analyzes the characteristics of this text,holding that it has the function of expressive text,informative text and vocative text.Based on this analysis,this thesis believes that translators should decide the principles of translating popular science books according to different types of linguistic functions and apply translation methods such as literal translation,annotation,domestication and so on to the translation of popular science texts. |
