As we all know, the Reform Movement of 1898 is a self-help attempt under the serious crisis of the Chinese nation. It called for "reform ",trying to change the status quo of rule. But the reform only lasted 103 days, the end of the Guang Xu emperor was imprisoned, the six gentlemen killed the end of the sigh and hasty end. With the view of cultural history, the analysis of the Reform Movement of 1898 can deconstruct and restore the causes of its failure. As Peter Burke said in The Scenery of Cultural History : " The history of unspoken views and the history of appearances remain at the heart of the study of cultural history." From the perspective of cultural history,we can analyze the root cause of the failure of the Reform Movement of 1898 from a long time and a deep level. At the cultural level, the deep-rooted traditional "cultural view of loyalty and filial piety ",the intertwined interaction of power culture, the interest of crony culture and the influence of social culture are all excellent windows to observe the failure of the Reform Movement of1898.The content of these different cultural levels is of great help to explore the final failure of the reformists and reformists. The persistence and long-term traditional culture are the deep factors that can not be ignored in the final failure of the Reform Movement of 1898,We can get a lot of enlightenment from the cultural level:Learn to use traditional political and cultural resources to change,so as to reduce the resistance to reform;Reformers should have consistent patience and perseverance, personality characteristics should not be excessive,so as not to cause the cultural environment at that time antipathy;Reform should minimize social shock and keep social culture in a relatively stable state.
