Russian Diaspora In Exile In The United States(1917-1939)

After the revolution of 1917,Soviet regime established.Authorities attacked the non-proletarians who actively participated in social and political activities.This situation forced the aristocrats,great businessmen,white army officers and soldiers,intellectuals,bourgeois temporary government officials and so on into exile.Between the revolution of1917 and the outbreak of World War II,about 1.5 million to 2 million Russian diaspora went into exile.The relatively free political environment of the United States,its strong economic strength,and its relatively relaxed immigration policies made it one of the largest countries to host Russian diaspora during this period.From 1917 to 1921,A large number of nobles,officials,and southern White troops retreating from Crimea entered the United States.From 1922 to 1930,Russian intellectuals and the White Army evacuated from Vladivostok reached the United States.From 1931 to 1939,a small number of Russians who had evacuated from other expatriate countries to avoid the war entered the United States.At the same time,most Russian diaspora who arrived in the United States after 1917 had better integrated into American society during this period.After coming to the United States,the Russian diaspora,dominated by the upper middle class,were downgraded sharply,but most of them adapted to American reality in some way after mastering English.The social service organizations,cultural and educational organizations and journalism organizations established by Russian diaspora in the United States constitute the basic framework of their life and culture in the United States,and the various organizations connect diaspora and alleviate their helplessness and anxiety in foreign countries.The fate of the Russian diaspora following the 1917 revolution was tragic,and their lives in the United States were fraught with challenges and difficulties.Russian diaspora in the United States adapt and integrate into American society more quickly than Russian expatriates in Western European countries during the same period,and large population movements lead to the erosion of social and political boundaries.As the carrier of culture,the Russian diaspora not only promotes the exchange between Russian culture and American culture,but also makes a great contribution to inheriting and developing Russian culture and enriching human culture.
