| As a business card passed to the world by a country and nation, culture continues to integrate with the economy and has become a major driving force for the economic development of all countries. In recent years, our country’s cultural industry has flourished and cultural trade has expanded rapidly under the support of various policies, moreover, our country has been the world’s largest exporter of cultural products for many years, but we mainly exports low value-added and labor-intensive cultural products, the international competitiveness is insufficient, and there is a significant gap in the export quality of cultural products with the developed countries. The improvement of the quality of cultural products depends on the promotion of technology and the formation of creativity, and the international circulation of cultural products involves factors such as technology, politics, economy, and cultural penetration, all of which are closely related to intellectual property protection policies. Therefore, this paper attempts to explore how to improve the export technology sophistication of our country’s cultural products from the perspective of intellectual property protection.First of all, this paper combs the relevant literature, constructs a three-sector model for mathematical derivation, and summarizes the direct and indirect effects of intellectual property protection on the export technology sophistication of cultural products,The indirect effects mainly include three channels: FDI,R&D and international trade. Then, this paper selects 126 countries’ unbalanced data from 2004 to 2017 for empirical analysis.Among them intellectual property protection comes from the G-P index and LSPR index and the explained variable only include domestic value-added,which is ajusted through UN Comtrade and UNCTAD-Eora database. Moreover, through OLS test, intermediary effects and TSLS test,we found that:(1)Intellectual property protection can significantly positively affect the export technology sophistication of cultural products, but its impact size is different in various cultural products and countries;(2)In addition to intellectual property protection, human capital, financial development, and infrastructure have a positive impact on the export technology sophistication of cultural products, but economic development and physical capital are contrary to expectations and have a negative impact. And after distinguishing between countries and product categories, the symbols of some control variables will change;(3)Intellectual property protection not only directly affects the export technology sophistication of cultural products, but also indirectly affected by FDI,R&D,and international trade, all of which have passed mediation test. Finally, this paper based on the research results, the following suggestions are put forward: completing the intellectual property protection system of cultural industry;enhancing the innovation ability of cultural enterprises;increasing the introduction of highquality foreign investment in the cultural industry;strengthening infrastructure construction;and improving the financial system of cultural industry. |
