A Report On E-C Translation Of Design Basis Report Of Construction Of Multi Storied Commercial Spaces At Nauorji Nargar,New Delhi(Excerpts)

With the development of global economic integration,more and more Chinese companies participate in the construction of international projects.The author selects the English-Chinese translation project — Design Basis Report of Construction of Multi Storied Commercial Spaces at Nauorji Nargar,New Delhi that the author participated in during the summer internship as a case for this article,then studies the translation of construction engineering text and hopes to provide a reference for translators in related fields.As one of the scientific and technological texts,construction engineering text has the characteristics of wealthy information and strong logic.From the perspective of the lexical level,there are a large number of nominalizations and abbreviations in the source text.From the perspective of the syntactic level,there are lots of passive sentences and long and complex sentences.From the perspective of the textual level,the source text requires that the translator shall have profound knowledge of related filed so as to achieve cohesion and coherence among sentences.The functional equivalence theory emphasizes the readers of target and source shall have similar responses to the equivalent message,so the author chooses functional equivalence theory as the guidance for this translation.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the author also proposes corresponding techniques to solve the problems encountered.In terms of vocabulary,nominalizations can be converted into verbs or verb phrases,and the translation of abbreviations can be translated according to its referential meaning after all kinds of information collection approaches.Regarding sentences,passive sentences can be translated into Chinese passive sentences or into Chinese active sentences.As for long and complex sentences,the author puts forward the translation techniques such as syntactic linearity,inversion,division,combination as well as reconstruction.With respect to the text level,the translator must enrich his knowledge reserve to figure out the logical relation of thesentences,then flexibly adjust the word order or add related connectives according to the sentence meaning.Through the analysis and summary of this translation practice,the author has found that the translation should be not only faithful to the source-language information,but also understandable and acceptable for the target readers when translating construction engineering text.Besides,to become an excellent translator,one should accumulate rich professional knowledge of related filed,and complete the translation task under the guidance of proper translation theory.
