A Report On Translation Of Operation Manual For TTK31-5.5DL HVAC Unit

With the continuous development of science and technology in China and the deepening of internationalization,more and more science and technology enterprises begin to explore the international market.In the process of opening up the foreign market,Chinese-English translation of product instructions plays an important role.Excellent English instructions can transfer information and promote products quickly and efficiently,guide users to operate,use and maintain products,improving the international competitiveness of products.The author had a 10-month translation internship in Shijiazhuang King Transportation Equipment Co.,Ltd.and the translation materials mainly involve quality control of the products.Combined with specific examples in Operation Manual for TTK31-5.5DL HVAC Unit,this report discusses and summarizes the translation strategies of the operation manual by using Nord’s text analysis model.The author deeply studies text analysis model,and finds that through the four steps of “interpretation of translation brief,analysis of source text,planning of translation strategy and production of target text”in the model,the source text can be analyzed thoroughly.Thus,the techniques of literal translation and omission are selected at the lexical level to make the language straightforward and concise.At the syntactic level,the techniques of linear translation,reverse translation and combination are chosen to ensure logic between statements.At the discourse level,the techniques of substitution and reiteration are adopted to make the translation complete and fluent.Through this practice,the author gets the following findings: first,the analysis of the translation brief of a certain chapter or paragraph is not the same as that of the whole text,because the purpose and function of a certain chapter,paragraph and the whole text are different;second,anyone of the four steps in text analysis model is indispensable,the first two steps play an important role in the translator’s deep understanding of the characteristics of the source text,and the last two steps reflect the significance of the analysis of the intratextual and extratextual factors of the source text on the choice of translation strategies;Third,text analysis model is a cycle mode,and the first cycle means that the translation can be generated,and multiple cycles can improve the translationquality.Fourth,the quality control of translation should run through the whole process of translation,which is a work that translators cannot neglect.
