A Report On Translation Of Supreme Lord Of Martial Arts(Excerpt)

The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation requires not only economic and military development,but also the flourishing of Chinese culture.Internet novels are one of the important carriers for spreading Chinese culture.Among them,martial arts and fantasy novels,as an important branch of online novels,play an extremely important role in the spread of Taoist and martial arts culture.However,due to the difference between Chinese and Western cultures,it causes foreign readers to have reading barriers to martial arts fantasy novels and affects the output of Chinese culture.Therefore,the English translation of online martial arts fantasy novels is particularly important.The translator selects four chapters of the online novel The Supreme God of Martial Arts as the translation text,describes the Chinese to English translation process of martial arts fantasy novels under the guidance of Medio Translatology theory and investigates the translation methods of martial arts fantasy novels.Based on the unique linguistic characteristics of martial arts fantasy novels and the readability of the target text,the translator uses the “Creative Treason” of Medio Translatology as the guiding translation theory,analyzes the transformation,deformation and loss of cultural images in literary translation from lexical level and syntactic level with examples and discusses how to use a variety of translation methods to maximize the translation of the Chinese unique culture,in order to make it more consistent with the reading habits of English readers,and also more suitable for the purpose of cultural communication.Finally,the translator summarizes the findings,inadequacies and limitations during the translation process,which will be helpful for the translator’s future translation study and practice,and provide reference for similar literary translation practice.
