| This is a report on the E-C translation of the tour guides training manual(How to be a Tour Guide),including the service standards and the related knowledge about tour guides. The objective is to train and groom excellent tour managers and guides,as they become a formidable part of the booming tourism industry.Hence, the high-quality of the E-C translation of the tour guides training manual is extremely important. This report, guided by Gideon Toury’ s Translation Norms Theory of initial norms, intends to explore how to transfer the original information precisely into the normalized text,by analyzing the lexical and syntactic translation of How to be a Tour Guide(except). It reveals the existence of differences between Chinese and English guidebook texts. On the basis of ensuring the accurate translation of the text, taking the textual characteristics of the target language as the criterion, and adopting the appropriate translation methods, the loose, colloquial and informal English guidebook texts can be translated into texts that conform to the characteristics of the Chinese language.Only in this way,the E-C translation of the training manual could be normalized.Hopefully, this report could be of help to the translators who have been engaged in this field. |
