This translation report is based on the English-Chinese translation of the chapter from Across Asia on a Bicycle, which belongs to the travel text and mainly describes the journey of two American students from Constantinople to Peking. The selected chapter is the first part of the text, which mainly introduces the local customs and experiences of the two authors in Asian Turkey. The excerpt is mainly narrative and descriptive, supplemented by argument and explanation, which involves a large number of cultural proper nouns. And the language style is humorous and ironic.Based on the analysis of the original text, these problems are needed to solve: the textual research on proper nouns, the concretization of abstract words, the logicalization of sentence relations, the grasp of the tone of the original text and the reduction of the overall writing style. In view of the above difficulties, this report elaborates the instructions and illuminations from three layers, namely the layers of linguistic context, situational context and cultural context to specific problems under the guidance of Contextual Theory by Hu Zhuanglin and Register Theory by Halliday.Combining specific examples of proper nouns, polysemous words, free phrases and complex sentences,it proposes corresponding translation methods and translation skills. For example, the translation methods of transliteration, literal translation with annotation, idiomatic translation, imitation and the translation skills of omission, following the order of the original sentence, inversion, amplification, diction and extension of the lexical meanings and four-character phrases are used to strive to faithfully, objectively and accurately convey the original message.Active voice is also adopted to translate English passive voice according to the text.It is hoped that this translation report would provide some references for the travel text translators.
