| The translation activities of popular science texts are becoming more frequent,occupying a place in the field of translation.“Science popularization”,as its name implies,means popularizing scientific knowledge.Popular science text is humanistic,which is derived from the essential attributes of science.Science is a tool for humans to recognize and understand the world.Its basic purpose is to “serve all mankind.” And science popularization as “science serves the people’s life” is to disseminate scientific knowledge among the public,aiming at a wide audience range,and its text should be easy to understand.(Liu Huajie,2008).Considering these text features above,appropriate translation strategies are required in popular science text translation for excellent translations.This report is based on author’s translation of Deep Medical(Chapters 1-2).Under the guidance of Adaptation Theory,the translator finished the translation task and considered the using of this theory in practice.The significance of Adaptation Theory in the translation of popular science texts is discussed through the interpretation of vocabulary,syntax and text in the original text.This report mainly consists of the following sections.The first part is the preface,which includes an introduction to the selected text of this translation practice and the purpose and significance of this selection.The second part introduces the entire translation practice process in stages,including the three stages of pre-translation preparation,translation,post-translation,and the timing of tasks in each stage.The third part introduces the nature and characteristics of science texts and the possibility of applying Adaptation Theory to the translation of science texts.The forth part selects typical cases in translation practice and elaborates the application of Adaptation Theory in the translation of popular science texts.The last part is the conclusion,including a summary and reflection on this translation practice.I anticipate that this translation practice report can be used as a reference to provide some reference for the translation of popular science texts in the coming days and make a modest contribution. |
