Although China has made a great progress in promoting gender equality in recent years,it still faces many problems and challenges in eliminating discrimination against women and safeguarding women’s rights and interests. The Nordic countries have accumulated a lot of experience in gender equality, which is worth learning for us.This translation practice is selected from the Chapter 5 of Can Man Do It? Using the couple Per and Siri as an example, the book shows how men in Nordic countries use their own actions to promote gender equality. The Chapter 5 mainly introduces the problems and solutions of men in the two fields of work and family,as well as the impact of gender equality on work and life. This translation practice plays a positive role in promoting gender equality and women’s development in China. Can Man Do It? belongs to information text, which main function is to convey information to readers. Therefore, the core of information text is the authenticity of the content. The expression of this text is concise, objective and logical.Long sentences with parenthesis and inanimate subject sentences often appear in the text, which make it more difficult for the translator to translate. In the practice of translation, the problems are classified into the following categories: comprehension of word meaning, logic problems caused by parenthesis, expression problems of inanimate subjects and animate subjects between English and Chinese, and cohesion problems of discourse. The translator uses the different translation methods such as extension, preposition, literal translation into inanimate and personal reference to handle these problems and make the translation more readable. At the same time,in order to make the target language more consistent with the reading habits of Chinese readers and enhance the logic and coherence of the text, the translator always keeps in mind the cohesion of discourse when translating. The translator hopes that this practice report can provide reference for future translation tasks.
