| In the current context of economic globalization,English as a necessary language for communication is very important.Reading of the four basic skills as an input skill often occupies a very important position.It also occupies a large score in major English exams.Some people once said such a sentence "The person who gets the high reading score wins the whole world",which shows the importance of reading.However,the author found that the students’ reading accuracy is a more serious problem in the junior high school English test.Many students’ ability to analyze and process the details of the articles was not strong,resulting in poor reading accuracy.Therefore,it is imperative to improve students’ reading ability.Reading deserves everyone’s attention.Teachers should abandon their outdated English reading teaching concepts in junior high school,change traditional English reading teaching methods,so as to improve students’ junior high school English reading ability and even lay a good foundation for English reading in the future.Widdowson(1989)considers chunks is a combination of grammar,semantics,and context.Chunks can effectively improve language skills and cultivate students’ discourse thinking.Therefore,the author applies the chunk theory to junior high school English reading teaching and explores the "three principles,three steps" teaching mode,which aims to improve students’ reading ability.The main research questions in this article is: Does chunk theory help to increase students’ interest,enlarge students’ vocabulary and improve the accuracy of students’ English reading? This study uses questionnaires,interviews,experiments,and the author constructs a teaching model for applying chunk theory to junior high school English reading.The author chooses eighth grade students in a junior high school as the research subjects and randomly select two classes with equivalent reading ability for comparison.Then the students are tested on the reading and vocabulary before and after the experiments,and the author will use SPSS25.0 to analyze the data to understand whether the students’ reading ability has been improved after the experiment.Conclusions are drawn from the research:(1)The chunk theory can increase students’ interest in English reading,and promote students to develop good reading habits and efficient reading skills.(2)The chunk theory has a positive impact on enlarging students’ vocabulary,and cultivate students’ awareness of chunks,improve their awareness of chunks and increase their vocabulary.(3)The chunk theory can improve the reading accuracy of students,improve their ability to process details of articles,and speed up the brain’s processing of information. |
