A Simulated Interpreting Report On China’s Economic Performance In The First Half Of 2020

Guided by Daniel Gile’s Effort Model Theory,the author takes a typical economic text“ China’s Economic Performance in the first half of 2020” as the material to give an introduction and analysis of the interpreting process and completion of this simulated interpreting task.Actually,an economic text is featured by numbers.In addition to dense numbers,this task involves various fields of the national economy and certain economic recovery measures.So terminology is another obstacle to overcome.Consequently,combined with the Theory of Limited Resources,the author analyzed the energy allocation among listening-memory-output of target language-coordination in simultaneous interpreting by means of Gile’s Effort Model Theory.The analysis reveals that sufficient pre-preparation can help the interpreter reduce the cognitive load on listening comprehension and build up confidence,which is essential to a good performance in interpreting.Furthermore,the author also introduces such skills as syntactic linearity,segmentation,supplementation and others used in the process of interpreting to show how to deal with some long or complicated sentences with specific cases to reduce cognitive load in interpreting.This report includes five parts.The first part introduces the interpreting tasks and analyzes the characteristics of the tasks;the second part describes the interpreting process,including pre-preparation,the difficulties and countermeasures of digital interpreting,interpreting skills for dealing with long and complicated sentences in interpreting;the third part mainly introduces the theoretical basis and its development status;the fourth part is the case analysis,showing how to use interpreting skills to reduce cognitive load in the process of simultaneous interpreting to ensure a better output of the target language;finally,the fifth part is a conclusion and reflection on the practice of interpreting,sharing experience and summarizing shortcomings,combined with a clear understanding of future efforts.Through this report,the author hopes that interpreters will be able to make good pre-preparation under correct theoretical guidance and use interpreting skills flexibly.So that they can coordinate the energy in training and practice and then become an excellent interpreter in the future.
