A Practice Report On The Literary Sketches In Five Kingdoms After Tang Dynasty

The popularity of traditional Chinese clothing,such as Han Fu,which began a few years ago,and the recent popularity of movies and TV shows featuring Chinese traditional culture have all proved people’s love and concern for traditional culture.The literary sketches in Tang Dynasty were very rich in content and had various kinds,which reflected the characteristics of the costumes of the five kingdoms after Tang Dynasty.Through the translation of the Literary Sketches in Five Kingdoms after Tang Dynasty,the purpose is to let foreign readers understand the economy,society,customs and aesthetic characteristics of China’s Tang Dynasty.Based on this,it can promote the improvement and development of the field of Chinese traditional costume translation and better spread the diversity of Chinese traditional costumes.Strengthening the soft power of culture is an important measure to improve the image and status of China.It is a good way to spread Chinese traditional culture to the west through the translation of literary works.In addition,through reading a large number of references,it is found that the skopos theory is mostly used to guide practical texts with strong purpose,but less for the guidance of literary works.The translator hopes this report can provide some references for this purpose.Under the guidance of the skopos theory,this report discussed and analyzed the phenomenon in the translation of costumes in the Literary Sketches in Five Kingdoms after Tang Dynasty.It can be seen that the position of the original text in equivalence theory is obviously higher than that in the skopos theory.This made it more suitable for literary translation to fit the audience’s cultural background,historical origin and the restoration of the original text’s artistic conception.the translator introduced the traditional costume culture from the aspects of color,pattern,material and style and so on,and adopted different translation strategies according to different purposes and principles.In this report,from the perspective of theory,the translator tried to understand the connotation of costume translation,and analyzed the details of costume description and the cultural phenomenon reflected in literary sketches in Tang Dynasty in combination with practical cases.There were many typical words of traditional costumes in the literary sketches,which are unique to Chinese traditional culture.At the same time,there are great diversities between Chinese and English in expression and sentence structure.It requires that even with different cultural and political backgrounds,the content of the report should be translated so that the audience can understand the connotation of traditional culture.Reception aesthetic highly affirms the importance of readers’ reading activities in realizing the meaning of texts.The translator does not have to be submissive to the source text,but should consider the cultural background,reading expectations and communication needs of the target audience,because each translation is directed directly to the intended audience.Therefore,literary translation under the guidance of the skopos theory is feasible.
