"Symposium" is Plato’s ironic form, and it is the most thought-provoking one of his many dialogues.Although the theme of drinking is eros,in the development of eros, goodness gradually becomes the most important theme. This thesis mainly discusses the understanding of Eros from the following five aspects.1、The background of Plato’s eros thoughts.love is the possession of good;through the process of its ascent and purification,it is shown that the essence of love is the pursuit of the highest good and the most beautiful, and that only in the highest good and the most beautiful can love obtain the highest satisfaction.Plato’s theory of Eros contains two parallel threads of reason and Eros. One is the rise of reason, from the perceptual stage to the intellectual stage and then to the rational stage. One is the ascending process of Eros, from the state of poverty to the state of perfection and then to the state of overflow..2、The content of Plato’s eros thoughts.Through the rising and purifying process of Eros,it is shown that the essence of Eros is the pursuit of perfection and beauty, and Eros can obtain the highest satisfaction only in perfection and beauty Plato’s theory of Eros contains two parallel threads of reason and Eros. One is the rise of reason, from the perceptual stage to the intellectual stage and then to the rational stage. One is the rising process of Eros, from the state of poverty to the state of perfection and then to the state of overflow, the eulogy of Phaedrus can not reveal the relationship between non-utility and self-perfection in love by means of rationalism.Pausanias does not correctly distinguish between philosophical virtue and moral virtue, and Eros can only reach the ultimate good in the true intellectual virtue.Erich Marcus failed to recognize that philosophy is essentially untechnical. The purpose of art is control, and only wisdom can bring true control. The Aristophanes doesn’t see reason at all.Agathon did not see the root of reason and goodness in human civilization.3、The relationship between Plato’s thought of eros and metaphysics. The idea of goodness is the highest reality, the absolute criterion for the world of truth; The idea of goodness,as a transcendental, can only be understood by the immortal soul.Love and desire,as the driving force, make the soul conscious of its choice and achieve the essence of the soul’s freedom, and return to the original.4、The influence of Plato’s thought of Eros on Aristotle. In Plato’s theory of fraternity, the discussion of the causes of fraternity and the classification of fraternity is the basis of the Aristotle’s innovative concept of fraternity;its recognition of the true, the beautiful and the good, and its emphasis on the immortal happiness are the core of the Aristotle’s development of the concept of fraternity.
