| The core of quality education is people-oriented.In recent years,the educational concept of learner-centered has been widely recognized.Therefore,it is necessary to carry out needs analysis to understand learners’ real needs,which is the premise of effective English teaching.Therefore,as important sources for learners to learn language knowledge and develop language skills,English textbooks should not only meet the requirements of the English Curriculum Standard,but also meet learners’ needs.Needs analysis is commonly applied to English for Specific Purposes.However,as a general English textbook for junior high school learners in many provinces,Go for it is rarely studied from the perspective of learners’ needs.In order to examine whether the Grade 9 English textbook Go for it is scientific,effective,and reasonable,and to examine whether this textbook meets the learners’ needs,this study proposes the following two research questions:Question 1: The evaluation of junior high school English textbook Go for it based on learners’ target needs.Question 2: The evaluation of junior high school English textbook Go for it based on learners’ learning needs.Firstly,Go for it was evaluated based on learners’ needs through text analysis.Secondly,this study conducted a survey in No.4 Junior High School.301 learners from Grade 9 and 4English teachers were selected.Data were collected through text analysis,questionnaires and interviews with teachers and learners.The research results show that generally speaking,Go for it meets most learners’ needs.Go for it focuses on the development of learners’ language skills,and it focuses on combining the learning of language knowledge with the application of knowledge in the real context.Go for it is interesting enough to cultivate learners’ interests in learning English.The textbook focuses on developing learners’ learning strategies,which helps improve learners’ self-learning abilities.At the same time,the textbook focuses on infiltrating cultural knowledge and cultivating learners’ cross-cultural awareness.Above all,Go for it basically meets target needs of most learners.The textbook also meets learners’ learning needs in following aspects.The difficulty of the textbook is moderate,so it is suitable for most learners.The textbook covers a variety of subjects which are interesting and closely related to learners’ lives.And there are many types of activities in Go for it.However,there are still some problems in Go for it,such as the form of listening materials is too single,the reading materials are too long,the textbook lacks post-writing guidance in writing activities,the textbook lacks the pronunciation activities,the number of vocabulary is too large,and the arrangement of grammar knowledge is not systematic.Finally,this study puts forward some suggestions for the existing problems in the textbook,aiming to make it better meet the needs of learners. |
