| English is considered as a basic course in senior high schools in China.There are many methodologies on English teaching,but seldom on English vocabulary teaching.And PPP(presentation,practice,production)teaching method still dominates the English vocabulary teaching in the areas of China,which is exam-oriented.The function of vocabulary cannot be realized and students cannot grasp the usage of vocabulary in their real life and communication.The thesis focuses on the English vocabulary teaching based on Data-driven Learning in senior high school.And it gives both the teachers and students a chance to use this new method on English learning and find whether the new vocabulary teaching method based on DDL can improve students’ capability of grasping the meaning of words in different contexts and beneficial to students’ long-term memory and students’ pragmatic use of words.This study conducted a comparative experiment between two classes in a high school in Shijiazhuang.In order to ensure that the vocabulary level of the two classes is similar,the pre-test of vocabulary was implemented.Simultaneously,the interview will be adopted from the experimental class and the students were chosen randomly.During the experiment,the DDL-based vocabulary method was carried out in the experimental class and the traditional PPP teaching method for the control class.After the experiment,the post-test and the delayed test were carried out in the two classes.All the data of the experiment were put into SPSS 23.0 to get the result.Using SPSS 23.0 software,such as descriptive analysis,the main results are as follow:Firstly,Data-driven Learning can be conducive to improving students’ ability of grasping the meaning of words in different contexts,especially noun,adjective and verb phrases among senior high school students.Secondly,compared with the traditional vocabulary teaching method,Data-driven Learning can be beneficial to students’ long-term memory.Lastly,Data-driven Learning can be helpful to improve students’ pragmatic use of words.According to the results of the experiment,the vocabulary teaching based on the DDL can be more effective than the traditional PPP teaching approach in different aspects.There are many implications among the new vocabulary method.To begin with,English teachers are supposed to have an overall training both theory and practice to guarantee the successful efficiency of the DDL.In addition,the teachers must have a general and specific guidance on students about the instruments,such as the basic information and the function of the COCA.Moreover,the students must cooperate the teachers to verify the new method.As a consequence,this study verifies the feasibility of Data-driven Learning in high school English vocabulary teaching.The teachers should develop vocabulary learning strategies so that they can effectively acquire more vocabulary on their own,especially outside the class.It is of great importance for teachers to develop their students own vocabulary learning strategies. |
