| Chinese Bridge competition is the longest and largest cultural event of the Confucius Institute at the University of Burundi each year. There are difficulties in the process of its development in spite of several advantages in Burundi.Burundian students,Burundian officials and educators as well as Chinese teachers are the main spectators of this competition in Burundi.Compared to the performance in other countries and regions, that in Burundi is steadily improving in recent years, but there is also a lot to reach for.Taking the teachers and students of the Confucius Institute at the University of Burundi as the object, this essay uses questionnaire, interview, observation and statistical analysis. The survey found that Chinese Bridge competition in Burundi is not only beneficial to Chinese teaching,it can also enhance students’ confidence in learning and motivate them to study Chinese.Learning Chinese with multiple people has an important and positive effect on students’ academic/career development and life planning. In addition,it can also enhance the influence of Confucius Institutes and help spread Chinese culture. There are also problems of this competition in Burundi. On the whole, the popularity of the organizer is relatively low and it holds little appeal for the masses. There are a few communication channels, the communication process is almost closed and the support of all parties is not enough. In terms of training, training models are immature and training strategies are single.Teachers usually have heavy tasks and the distribution of teachers is uneven.Teachers have insufficient understanding of this competition, little experience of sharing and inheriting and great differences in values from students.Students there spend little time on practice and they are overly optimistic about their potential.Incorrect analysis of their failure, improper learning strategies and insufficient time for learning are also their problems. In response to the above issues,we put forward several suggestions to the Sino-foreign Language Exchange Cooperation Center, the Confucius Institute, teachers and students at the University of Burundi specifically. |
