| Vocabulary teaching is an important part of English teaching.However,in the process of the traditional junior middle school English vocabulary teaching,most teachers still use the traditional methods in vocabulary teaching,students learn and memory words in isolation by rote,learning’s effect is becoming more and more poor.Semantic Field Theory is one of the most important theories in semantics.It holds that words in a language system are semantically interrelated,and they together constitute a complete lexical system.This provides a systematic theoretical basis for vocabulary teaching.This research applies the Semantic Field Theory to the experimental research of junior middle school English vocabulary teaching,it mainly starting from the following two research questions:Question 1: What changes have junior middle school students made in their vocabulary learning strategies after English vocabulary teaching based on Semantic Field Theory?Question 2: What is the effect of English vocabulary teaching based on SemanticField Theory on English vocabulary proficiency of junior middle school students?In this research,a total of 86 students from two classes of eighth grade at Handan No.9 Middle School participated in the 16-week teaching experiment.One class had 43 students as the control class and the other 43 students as the experimental class.In this experiment,the qualitative and quantitative research methods of testing,questionnaire and interview were adopted,and the data were analyzed by SPSS system,and the following conclusions were drawn:Junior middle school students’ vocabulary learning strategies have changed after the English vocabulary teaching based on Semantic Field Theory: the frequency of vocabulary learning strategies used by junior middle school students is generally increased,and the frequency of memory strategy and cognitive strategy are increased more;English vocabulary teaching based on Semantic Field Theory is helpful to improve the English vocabulary proficiency of junior middle school students;the above teaching experiment proves that English vocabulary teaching based on Semantic Field Theory is effective.It is hoped that it can supply implication for junior middle school English teachers in teaching. |
