This paper is mainly based on the theory of Articulatory Phonology, using electroglottograph, ultrasound and electropalatographic to study the articulation of lax and tense sounds in Wa.There are six chapters in the article.Chapter one mainly summarizes the theoretical basis of this article and the research overview of lax and tense sounds in Wa,and introduces the main research content and research purpose of this article.Chapter two introduces the research method of this article, introduces the working principle of the electroglottograph, ultrasound and electropalatographic instruments, clarifies the definition and extraction methods of EGG signal, tongue and palate signal related parameters, and introduces the experimental objects, experimental materials and experimental process of this experiment.Chapter three mainly analyzes the articulation of lax and tense vowels. The study found that the lax and tense vowels have significant differences in the open quotient and speed quotient. The open quotient of lax vowels is higher, the open quotient of tense vowels is lower, the speed quotient of lax vowels is lower, and the speed quotient of tense vowels is higher. On the overall performance of the fundamental frequency, the difference in tenseness is not significant. With reference to the data of the speaker’s modal pronunciation,we can roughly think that the phonation type of lax vowels in Wa are the breathy voice, and the phonation type of tense vowels are the modal voice. The tongue position of lax vowels is forward and upward, and the tongue position of tense vowels is lower and backward.Chapter four examines the articulation of unaspirated consonants at the beginning of the syllable, and analyzes the influence of lax and tense characteristics on the phonation of unaspirated consonants and the performance of tongue-palate contact. The VOT of unvoiced unaspirated stops in lax syllables is slightly greater than that of tense syllables, and lax and tense have little effect on the VOT of voiced unaspirated stops.Except for voiced fricatives, most of the open quotients of unaspirated voiced consonants in lax syllables are significantly higher than those in tense syllables. The place of articulation of consonants in lax syllables is relatively forward, and the place of articulation of consonants in tense syllables is relatively backward.Chapter five discusses the articulation of aspirated consonants, and compares the effects of aspirated and tenseness characteristics on segment pronunciation. The study found that the VOT of unvoiced aspirated stops was significantly greater than that of unvoiced unaspirated stops, and there was no significant difference between the VOT of voiced aspirated stops and voiced unaspirated stops. The open quotient of voiced section before aspiration of voiced aspirated consonants is more consistent with the open quotient of voiced and unaspirated consonants in lax syllables. The open quotient of voiced aspirated section is the highest, and the open quotient of the stable vowel after voiced aspirated consonants is consistent with the open quotient of tense vowels. The palatal performance of aspirated consonants is consistent with that of unaspirated consonants in tense syllables.Chapter six summarizes the brief research results and shortcomings of this article.
