| Under the background of “One belt and one road” in China, western culture of China gradually prospers and plays an important role and significance in the process of enriching Chinese culture.Western literary works show the unique natural scenery, cultural value and language characteristics of western China incisively and vividly. From a new literary perspective,Desert Rites, one of the Desert Trilogy written by Xue Mo,truly recreates the hard life of ordinary people in Tengger desert and the living scenes of people in Liangzhou of western China with the strong language features and the distinct values of the western people.Xue Mo is a famous western literary writer. However,at present, most of the discussions about the Desert Rites focus on literariness.Few studies pay close attention to the translation of the Desert Rites, and even fewer studies study the translation from the perspective of ecological translation. The theory of eco-translatology,proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen graduated from Tsinghua University,is a new translation theory in the translation studies. This theory is an interdisciplinary research.Eco-translatology not only meets the requirements of the times, but also provides a new theoretical guidance and research paradigm for translation practice. This translation theory mainly explores the translators?adaption and selection to the linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension under different linguistic and textual ecological environments to presents more excellent translations. Therefore, this dissertation will study Goldblatt?s English translation of Desert Rites from the perspective of eco-translatology theory by analyzing specific translation cases. This paper uses the translation methods of three-dimensional transformations principle as the theoretical framework to study how the translator make an adaption and selection to the three dimensions of language, culture and communication under different translation eco-environments.In this study, this dimension is mainly carried out by the translator?s conversion of the translation of Liangzhou?s folk dialect, ballads and rhetorical language. The adaptation and selection of the cultural dimension mainly pays attention to the translator?s adaptation and selection of the translation of the religious culture and mystical culture, political culture and regional culture-loaded words. The adaptive transformation of communicative dimension focuses on the verbal communication and non-verbal communication between characters in the novel to realize the communicative intention of the original text.At the same time, the interaction and integration between the adaptive selection of culture and language dimension promote the realization of communicative intention. From the three dimensions? analyses, the conclusion is drawn: the translator in different translational eco-environments,in accordance with the principles of “adaptive selection” and “selective adaptation”,fully adapted to linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension of the original text and the translation environment to make more adaptions and selections. In that case, the translator can give a perfect translation with a high degree of integration.Under the condition of ensuring the accurate transmission of the original information,Goldblatt can constantly adapt to the eco-environments and select the appropriate translation methods and strategies in the process of translation,so as to give full play to the subjective initiative of the translator and make good use of the balance of translation, which is worth learning from. And the dissertation also provides a new study perspective for the translation studies of Desert Rites. |
