The Ministry of education comprehensively deepens the curriculum reform to promote the all-round development of students.According to the characteristics of English subject,the new curriculum standard is revised and the concept of core literacy is put forward.The 2017 edition of English curriculum standards for senior high schools provides programmatic guidance for English teaching and points out the direction for English teaching.As an important part of language ability,reading is an important way of language input.Reading involves not only basic knowledge such as words and grammar,but also students’ grasp of discourse structure.With the development of quality education and the new curriculum reform,the requirements of students’ ability are constantly improving.Teachers should pay attention to the teaching of reading,strengthen students’ understanding of the text structure,so as to improve students’ ability of English reading comprehension.This study takes the students of two parallel classes of senior two in a middle school in Harbin as the research object,applies the thematic progression model to the teaching of English reading comprehension,and explores whether the model can strengthen the students’ understanding of reading text structure and improve their English reading comprehension ability.This study adopts the method of combining quantitative research and qualitative research,using questionnaire,test,interview,and using SPSS20.0 for data analysis.The innovation lies in: the author applies the thematic progression model in the basic education stage,and takes the thematic structure theory and discourse analysis theory as the theoretical basis.Through 12 weeks teaching experiment,the author concludes that thematic progression model can enhance students’ understanding of reading structure and improve their English reading comprehension ability.Based on this study,the author puts forward some suggestions and prospects on the implementation of Thematic Progression Pattern,hoping to provide inspiration for teachers to use this model in the future and provide reference for future researchers.
