In recent years,as the world’s newly added conventional oil and gas resources have been declining, the exploration of conventional oil and gas resources has become increasingly difficult,it is of particularly importance to develop unconventional oil and gas resources. Our country is abundant in unconventional oil and gas resources, but there are many major environmental challenges in its development process, such as water contamination. This report is based on the E-C translation of the Regulating Water Security in Unconventional Oil and Gas(Excerpts),which introduces water security management around the world in the development of unconventional oil and gas resources. At present, the demand for scientific English translation is increasing in our country. As a student of English translation in technical college, the author should focus on others fields while studying the language. The translation about petroleum texts is of great importance in scientific English translation. So the purpose of this report is how to accurately translate such texts. It is hoped that this report can provide references for the translators in the field of development of unconventional oil and gas resources in our country. This report firstly introduces the background, purpose and significance of the translation project. Then,it expounds the translation process, including pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.Next,it focuses on the case analysis at lexical, syntactic and textual levels under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory. Finally,it presents conclusion of this translation project, the author believes that Functional Equivalence Theory could guide the translation of petroleum texts.
