With the spread of web-based teaching tools in live Chinese classes after the COVID-19,more and more Confucius Institutes are applying web-basedteaching tools to assist in the improvement of online teaching quality.The application of multiple web-basedteaching tools offers the possibility to improve the interest of teaching interaction and teaching efficiency,but also poses challenges for teachers to select and apply web-based teaching tools.The web-based teaching tools usually used in live Chinese classes for adults at the Confucius Institute of PUCP are taken as the object of study.Combining research on CALL computer-assisted language learning theory and game-based learning theory,this paper investigates the advantages and shortcomings of the web-basedteaching tools in live Chinese classes in terms of their functions and applications using questionnaires,interviews and classroom observations,and explores the matching of their applicable teaching sessions.The study found that the functional strengths of the online tools include high game fun,high interactivity,and attracting attention.Its functional weaknesses include weak feedback,unsystematic classification,and tendency to entertain activities.The limitations of teachers’ application include operational problems,mechanization of practice,untimely information feedback,and inappropriate design methods.As a result,we suggest that teachers should improve their technical skills,use the complementary tools to promote resource integration,improve the relevance of activity design,and increase the number of open exercises.Finally,we suggest the design of special activities for Chinese teachers to select and apply web-based teaching tools in different teaching sessions of integrated classes.In vocabulary teaching,Peardeck,Wordwall,Kahoot! and Quizlet are suggested to organize special activities.In grammar teaching,it is recommended to use Peardeck,Wordwall and Kahoot! For reading and listening,we suggest Peardeck and ED Puzzle to organize extension activities.For homework,Google Classroom is recommended to organize vocabulary and writing extensions.The study hopes to provide a reference for novice Chinese teachers to select and comprehensively apply web-based teaching tools to assist teaching in live Chinese classes,so as to promote the development of live distance teaching of Chinese.
