A Survey Study On Employment Situation Of MTI Graduate

As globalization continues to deepen,there are increasingly frequent exchanges among countries,promoting the rapid development of language service industry.The major of translation and interpreting has been set as a professional degree to meet the market demand.Since MTI is practical and market-oriented,the employment situation of MTI graduates is worthy of attention.This thesis investigates the employment situation of MTI graduates from China Foreign Affairs University(CFAU)by designing a survey through sending out a webbased questionnaire to MTI graduates who have graduated from CFAU within the past5 years.It aims to provide information about the employment situation of MTI graduates and help MTI students improve their career planning according to real employment situation and give some advice for CFAU to improve its MTI curriculum.Most of the participants are doing English-related jobs.Government agency and public institutions are the largest employers of MTI graduates and language service industry remains the most attractive area.It is suggested that CFAU make improvements on teaching and curriculum,interpreting practice and employment guidance while MTI students are expected to make efforts in participating interpreting practice,knowledge expansion and career planning.Chinese language competence,English language competence and translation competence are regarded as very important universally in enhancing employability.This thesis is meant to take CFAU for example to reflect the employment situation of MTI graduates in China to some extent.And it is expected to be of help for CFAU further improve its MTI program.
