College English teaching is being reformed constantly.Art Majors is an indispensable part of college,so their English teaching can not be ignored especially in English listening and speaking.In October 2013,Professor Zhang Xuexin of Fudan University put forward the concept and implementation assumption of PAD Class Mode(Presentation,Assimilation,Discussion),which provided a new perspective for the researchers devoted to the reform of classroom teaching quality in Colleges.This research applies PAD Class Mode to Art Majors’ English listening and speaking teaching to encourage students to participate in the class,study actively and improve Art Majors’ listening and speaking ability.The research focuses on the following questions:(1)Can PAD Class Mode arouse Art Majors’ initiative to participate in English listening and speaking?(2)Can PAD Class Mode improve Art Majors’ English listening and speaking ability more effectively than traditional teaching mode?(3)What are the enlightenments for teachers’ teaching in Art Majors’ English listening and speaking teaching with applying PAD Class Mode?Based on Constructivism Theory,Cooperative Learning Theory,Cognitive Learning Theory,this thesis adopts the qualitative and quantitative method.It selects about 50 students of two Art Major classes of 2020 in Shenyang Normal University to conduct empirical research.One is experimental class(EC)and the other is control class(CC).The EC uses PAD Class Mode while students in CC use traditional teaching method.Both classes use the same material and are taught by the same teacher.The experiment lasts for one semester.Before the experiment,all the students are asked to finish the pre-test questionnaire which is designed to know the students’ English willingness to communicate.Then,they take the pre-test in listening and oral English.During the experiment,classroom observation is used for recording the teacher’s teaching and students’ learning.At the end of the experiment,all the students should finish the post-test questionnaire and post-test in listening and oral English.Finally,SPSS 25.0is used for data analysis,and the conclusions are drawn as follows:(1)PAD Class Mode can arouse Art Majors’ initiative in English listening and speaking.It changes students’ learning attitude,increases the frequency of communication and reduces their learning anxiety.(2)The results of listening and oral English tests show that compared with CC,students in EC can get higher scores in both listening and speaking.This verifies that PAD Class Mode can improve Art Majors’ English listening and speaking more effectively.(3)PAD Class Mode makes up for the shortcomings of traditional teaching and learning.The teachers and students’ roles should depend on each other in classroom teaching and learning.In each teaching stage,the role of teachers and students should be fixed and changed in time so that students can really participate in the class.And they are willing to participate in the classroom activities and make full use of time to practice listening and speaking.Therefore,this research has certain reference significance to the college English listening and speaking teaching of Art Majors.
