| As we all know,English reading teaching plays an important role in the whole English teaching procedure,thus how to improve the quality of English reading teaching is increasingly becoming an important part of researches for English educators.However,some problems still exist in the current English reading teaching,for example,some students lack the understanding of the knowledge of English language and the background related to the reading content.All these problems are not conducive to the cultivation of students’ reading attitudes towards English reading or their usage of reading strategies,which is not beneficial for students’ to improve their reading performance.In order to solve the above problems,the researcher conducted a study on the application of English reading teaching based on Schema Theory in a certain senior high school in Shenyang.The research question includes:(1)What effects Schema Theory has on students’ reading attitude towards English reading when applying the theory to English reading teaching.(2)What effects Schema Theory has on students’ usage of reading strategies when applying the theory to English reading teaching?(3)What effects Schema Theory has on students’ reading performance when applying the theory to English reading teaching? In this study,the researcher used questionnaires,tests and interviews as the main research instruments to conduct a three-month experiment in two parallel classes in grade one in a certain senior high school.During the experiment,the teacher in the experimental class was guided by Schema Theory in teaching English reading,while the teacher in the control class continued to teach reading using the previous teaching method.After a three-month experiment,the changes of two test scores and the rate of accuracy show that although the scores of students in experimental and control class have improved,the scores of students in experimental class applying Schema Theory to English reading improved more significantly.The analysis of the results of questionnaires and interviews reveals that students who receive English reading teaching based on Schema Theory show a more positive attitude towards English reading after a period of study.Finally,the researcher concludes that the application of Schema Theory in the teaching of English reading in senior high school has a positive effect on improving students’ attitudes towards English reading,usage of reading strategies as well as their reading performance.After analyzing and reflecting on the results of the study,the researcher makes suggestions for the future improvement and development of English reading teaching. |
