Learning English pronunciation well can help learners to express their thoughts fluently,improve their critical thinking ability and the efficiency of exchanging ideas.It also plays a positive role in expanding English vocabulary and improving their listening,grammar and reading comprehension ability.While nowadays,people pay less attention to the pronunciation teaching in primary schools.And there exists some obstacles for students to learn pronunciation well,such as boring drills and rigid exercises without realistic language environment,which are specifically manifested as students’ unsatisfactory pronunciation scores and low interest in learning pronunciation.Through reading a large number of literature,the author found that English pronunciation picture books can solve students’ pronunciation learning obstacles well.Picture books provide a real and meaningful language environment for pronunciation learning,which meets the psychological development and learning needs of primary students.Therefore,the purpose of this research is to verify two hypotheses: 1.The application of English picture books can improve students’ interest in pronunciation learning;2.The application of English picture books can improve students’ pronunciation scores.In order to verify the above two hypotheses,the author carries out experiments by means of using questionnaire,interview and tests.The author chosen 80 students in Grade5 in No.6 Primary School of Dongsheng for the research,and then randomly divided them into experimental class and control class.During the experiment,the experimental class used English picture books in pronunciation teaching,while the control class still carried out traditional pronunciation teaching method.According to the research questions,the author conducted pre and post tests,pre and post questionnaire and an interview,and finally analyzed the collected data through SPSS 22.0.It verified that applying English picture books can indeed improve students’ pronunciation learning interest and pronunciation scores.What’s more,it also found that using English picture books can also expand students’ vocabulary,broaden students’ horizon,help students know the cross-cultural knowledge and improve their interest in English learning.To sum up,the application of English picture books in English pronunciation teaching in primary school is feasible and effective.Finally,the author illustrates the implements and the limitations of this research,and then puts forward some suggestions for further research.
