A Rhetorical Study Of The Name Of Martial Arts In Jin Yong’s Novels

Jin Yong’s novels are the greatest achievement of modern Chinese swordsman novels,and they are the benchmark of swordsman novels at present and for a long time to come.As one of the three pillars of Jin Yong’s novels,martial arts plays an important practical role in exploring the rich cultural connotation of the novels,revealing the characters,highlighting the themes and promoting the development of the plots.At present,the academic circle focuses on the discussion of the rich cultural connotation of martial arts from the perspective of word meaning,and there are few articles on the rhetorical analysis of the names of martial arts.Therefore,based on the theories of rhetoric and rhetorical psychology,this paper makes a systematic study of the martial arts names in Jin Yong’s novels.This paper is divided into five parts:The introduction mainly summarizes the research status of martial arts in Jin Yong’s novels,and expounds the purpose and significance of the topic,the source of corpus and research methods.The first chapter analyzes the rhetorical style of martial arts titles in Jin Yong’s novels from a micro perspective.According to the different rhetorical effects,the figures of speech commonly used in martial arts names are divided into vivid images,intensifying semantic impressions,special situational targets and tactful implication.The second chapter grasps the general characteristics of rhetoric in martial arts titles of Jin Yong’s novels from a macro perspective.This thesis is mainly discussed from the following three aspects: various types of rhetoric,comprehensive use of rhetoric and rich sources of rhetoric.The third chapter discusses the psychological mechanism of speech in Jin Yong’s martial arts titles.In the construction of martial arts names,metaphor and metonymy are mainly based on association and imagination.Hyperbole and heterologue are mainly based on attentional reinforcement.Quotation,allusion and Tibetan words are mainly based on psychological distance.By analyzing the psychological mechanism of the figures of speech in the names of martial arts,this paper solves the deep-seated problem of using a large number of figures of speech in the names of martial arts.The conclusion part summarizes the viewpoints of this paper and points out the shortcomings of this paper.
