On Financial Terminology Translation And Management In The "CAT+MT+PE" Mode

Advances made in neural network machine translation and computer-assisted translation(CAT)have changed the traditional translation paradigm.The latest progress in productivity of translation technology has also spawned innovative translation activity mode.Under this circumstance,the "CAT + MT(Machine Translation)+ PE(Post-Editing)" translation mode has been gaining ground.Some practice reports have described the well-established superiority of this mode in textual translation over traditional translation mode.While awareness of the critical role of terminology in translation has been on the rise,little research is available on best practices for building and using integrated termbases in the "CAT+MT+PE" mode.This report is a step toward filling this gap and provides a practice on optimizing the design and use of integrated termbases.This translation practice systematically tackled translation-oriented terminology management in two steps: first,the back-of-the-book-index was processed,machine-translated,and manually verified to construct a termbase;then,the verified translations in the termbase were adjusted according to the context during the process of textual post-editing.Simultaneously,new terms were extracted to extend the termbase for document sharing or for reference in subsequent projects.In this translation project,the "CAT+MT+PE" mode ensured the consistency of terminology translation in this translation project and provided scalability for future practices.This report presents the active role of the "CAT+MT+PE" mode in terminology translation in detail by describing the process of terminology translation,the methods of terminology verification,and typical terminology translation cases.It’s hoped that this project is a harbinger of the information era to come,and the findings of this report urge more translators to embrace translation technology with a tune-up of new working methods and the acquaintance of new tools.
