A Report On Chinese Translation Of The Power Of Small(Excerpts)

This report is a reflection of the E-C translation practice of the book The Power of Small(excerpts).The author finishes the translation with the guidance of the discourse coherence.The source text is a practical psychological text with concise,colloquial words and strong coherence and logic.In translating this text,the author deeply realizes the importance of textual awareness.Under the guidance of discourse coherence theory,the author,identifies the coherence of the source text,constantly modifies and improves the expression of Chinese translation,reconstructs the coherence of the source text in the translation,makes the language of the translation more concise,the thematic meaning more prominent,thus making it easier for readers to understand.This paper discusses the coherence of the source text at four levels,namely,stylistic,grammatical,semantic and pragmatic,analyzing the cohesive devices and their logical progressing.The author mainly adopts the methods of omission,addition,liberal translation and conversion,as well as the methods of transforming cohesion,changing cohesion content,explicitation or implication to reconstruct the coherence of the target text.Through this translation practice and report writing,the author has a deeper understanding of how to realize the coherence of practical psychological texts,and also summarizes some translation strategies and methods to reconstruct the discourse coherence of the target text.It is desired that some valuable suggestions can be provided to this kind of translation and provide some help for professional research in related fields.
