| The text chosen for the translation task is the novel The Fire written by Australian writer Glen Phillips,which is the third part of the novel Afterwards trilogy.The novel is provided by the Australian Studies Centre of Mudanjiang Normal University.The novel tells the story of a murder that happened in 1931 which was an unpeaceful period.The novel The Fire begins with the victim Shu Zhen’s funeral.The main character Frederick is the first one who finds the scene of the murder,and he has been paying attention to the investigation of murder and during the period of investigation he falls in love with the victim’s twin sister Shu Qin.Shu Qin eventually discovers the real murderer.The novel is about a gripping story with heart-thrilling plots.The translator analyzes the translation difficulties from four aspects:character description,scene description,plot description and cultural factors,and chooses many translation strategies: liberal translation,addition,division,conversion,inversion,negation,etc..On the basis of the translation task,the translator summarizes the experience gained from the practice and puts forward suggestions of future research,hoping to provide a reference for literary translation research. |
