The thesis is a report on the translation of “Gender Flexibility, but not Equality:Young Adults’ Division of Labor Preferences” written by Brittany Dernberger,an American scholar.Under the background of pursuing gender equality, the source text puts forward a new concept: gender flexibility. The author suggests that researchers must distinguish between adoption of gender egalitarian principles and gender flexibility in dividing time at work and at home.Due to the cultural obstacles in translating, the translator encountered some problems in the process. However, according to the functional equivalence theory, the delivery of meaning matters the most, and the style comes the second. Thus,in this report, guided by Nida’s functional equivalence theory and based on Li Changshuan’s "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation" framework, the translator analyzes the problems encountered in the process of translation, such as comprehension of the difficult words and phrases,Europeanization and long and complicated sentences, and raises corresponding solutions.
