In this report, the source text is the fourth chapter of The Social Nature of Emotion Expression--What Emotions Can Tell Us about the World, namely Affective Pragmatics Extended: From Natural to Overt Expressions of emotion. The author of chapter four is Andrea Scarantino who outlines a more expansive notion of emotion expressions in this chapter. In addition,it also distinguishes five types of emotion expressions, some of which are natural and some of which are overt. The Social Nature of Emotion Expression--What Emotions Can Tell Us about the World belongs to an informative text in light of Peter Newmark’s text typology theory.Consequently, communicative translation should be adopted.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation, its application in this project is analyzed.Three main difficulties are passive voice, attributive clauses and adjectives, and corresponding solutions are adopted like conversion of voice, syntactic linearity and conversion of parts of speech. The last part summarizes gains from this project and problems to be solved.
