Shanxi Film Study During The Republic Of China (1935-1940)

During the period of the Republic of China,under the rule of Yan Xishan,Shanxi was not exposed to the gunpowder of warlord scuffle,and took this opportunity to recuperate and develop economy.Under the call of “developing the northwest” and “Shanxi Province for ten years”,northwest film company was born.This paper focuses on the study of Shanxi film in the period of the Republic of China.It takes the northwest film company as the research object,tries to restore the vividness,complexity and diversity of history,constructs the culture of local film history,even reveals the historical pulse of the whole “wartime Chinese film”,and reveals its special historical works Finally,it presents the overall vision of Chinese film history.As the only film production company in Shanxi Province during the period of the Republic of China,northwest film company is of great significance to the film development of Shanxi Province.In this paper,the background of the company’s establishment,the management organization during the period of existence,as well as the films shot are sorted and verified.At the same time,the social and cultural environment and political environment of Shanxi are analyzed to explore the development environment of Shanxi film in the Republic of China.This paper explores the contact of Shanxi filmmakers in the period of the Republic of China.It mainly combs the contacts of filmmakers by the different roles of learning,geography and industry.Through the three times of personnel aggregation and diaspora of Northwest film company,as well as the important figures in the cultural circles of Shanxi in this period,the paper explores the significance of filmmakers in Promoting Shanxi’s modernization.During the period of the Republic of China,there were filmmakers in the construction of multi-cultural landscape in Shanxi.In terms of drama,film drama,newspapers and other aspects,it built a dynamic and diverse whole for the cultural construction of Shanxi.Based on the analysis of the above three aspects,combined with the macro understanding of the social and historical background of Shanxi in the period of the Republic of China,the paper concludes that the film development of Shanxi Province in the Republic of China presented the initial stage of film development under the influence of Northwest film company,and injected vitality into the cultural environment of Shanxi in the construction of multiple cultural landscapes.As a local film culture institution,northwest film company is of great significance to China’s overall film pattern and the cultivation of local culture.
