This paper will analyze the interpretation of new words in Intermediate Chinese Intensive Reading Textbooks and Advanced Chinese Intensive Reading Textbooks in detail.The paper firstly researches the information about the study of word interpretation in TCFL textbooks,the study of English annotation in TCFL textbooks and the study of word interpretation in the two sets of tutorials,and gives a general introduction of the two sets of tutorials and the theoretical knowledge of word interpretation,then focuses on analyzing the methods and characteristics of word interpretation in the two sets of textbooks,finally puts forward the corresponding improvement suggestion for the problems of word interpretation in two textbooks.The main point of view of the paper is that the intermediate and advanced Chinese intensive reading textbooks should be comprehensively and scientifically applied to each interpretation method according to different language stages,difficulty and nature of new words.The overall structure of this paper can be divided into three parts.The first part is an overview of the two textbooks and the concept of interpretation.In this section,the author mainly focuses on the external form of interpretation,counting the number and part of speech of interpretation,analyzing the basic format and the language of interpretation in the two sets of tutorials.After that,the author introduces the 13 common interpretation methods in detail,and compares the tutorials’ interpretation methods with the dictionaries’ interpretation methods in order to lay a theoretical foundation for the later study.In the second part,the author analyzes the interpretation methods of two textbooks.The result is that the translation method is the major interpretation method of intermediate textbooks,and the synonyms or synonymous phrases method is the major interpretation method of intermediate textbooks and the whole Chinese interpretation.Later,the author compares the interpretation methods of the intermediate and advanced textbooks,and introduces the supplementary interpretation of two textbooks.The third part is the inadequate interpretation analysis and suggestions for improvement of two textbooks.The author suggests that the intermediate textbooks should increase the use of pictures,enriching the form of English interpretation,supplementing and standardizing the part of speech,supplementing the color meaning of words and putting the proper nouns in the list of words in the appendix.Also,the author suggests that the advanced textbooks should improve the accuracy of interpretation,supplementing and standardizing the part of speech,marking the clutch words with special symbols and supplementing the grammatical characteristics of idioms.Finally,the author suggests that the two textbooks should also add a summary description of language and cultural knowledge.It is hoped that the research in this paper can provide some reference for the improvement of interpreting new words in intermediate and advanced Chinese intensive reading textbooks.
