| The sustainable development of travel and tourism has become the mainstream of economic development of the international community. The Global Sustainable Tourism Council is committed to promoting global sustainable tourism development. In this report, two panel discussions sharing experience in sustainable procurement and destinations’ responses to climate change are selected from the 2019 GSTC Global Conference for a simultaneous interpreting practice. The English language and the Chinese language differ from each other distinctly,so translation shifts are highly necessary during the interpreting process.Translation Shifts Theory breaks the limitation of formal correspondence in translation and proposes systematic methods of translation shifts so as to achieve textual equivalence. It is mainly used to analyze translations and guide written translation practice, but it is rarely applied to interpreting. This report takes Translation Shifts Theory as guidance for a conference simultaneous interpreting practice on sustainable tourism for the first time. After exploring the applicability of the theory to E-C simultaneous interpreting, the report summarizes effective translation shifts in E-C simultaneous interpreting through case analysis. It is concluded that three kinds of category shifts, namely structure shifts, class shifts and unit shifts, can help facilitate language conversion in E-C simultaneous interpreting and improve the quality of translation. |
