Theory On Local Narrative In Cao Naiqian’s Novels

Since the 20 th century,local literature has become one of the most important literary types in modern and contemporary Chinese literature.Generation after generation of local writers have focused on the birth of the local to concern and write about the survival and development of the local.In addition to Zhao Shuli,Shanxi local writers mostly unknown.In the 1980 s,Shanxi writer Cao Naiqian was praised by Nobel Prize Judge G?ran Malmqvist and famous writer Wang Zengqi,it is precisely because whether in the content of the works or in the writing language,Cao Naiqian’s novels have shown a unique creativity.Cao Naiqian lives in the countryside,and he grows into a peasant writer with a earthy flavor of Shanxi Province,almost all of his novels were based on his own experiences.He has been committed to the local reality of Shanxi Yanbei writing to recontruct real unknown Yanbei local history of the 1960 s and 1970 s.In addition,Cao Naiqian’s novels have strong literature except for a few autobiographical novels.This thesis attempts to analyze Cao Naiqian’s novel text from the angle of content and strategy of local narration by using the theory of “local narration”,and this paper will study the local narrative connotation of Cao Naiqian’s novels from the following aspects.First,The Yan Bei world where misery and tenderness coexist: Cao Naiqian looks down on the masses of Yan Bei with pity and compassion.His novel presents a rural world almost isolated from the real world--The Yan Bei world.Yan Bei is a backward country with a serious and tense era,which has brought extreme suffering to the people of Yan Bei that can not be imagined in modern civilization.At the same time,people did not lose their humanity in the difficult environment of Yanbei,they still have touching warmth.Cao Naiqian tries to inspire the readers to think philosophically about the existence of life.Whether the reflection on the fate and existence of human beings in that period of wilderness history,or the accusation against the "Cultural Revolution",the thoughts brought to the readers are profound.Moreover,whether the Yanbei People’s clothing,food,shelter and transportation,or the local customs,there is a strong local color of Shanxi in Cao nai-qian’s novels.Cao Naiqian also reappeared the regional cultural characteristics of Yanbei in Shanxi Province from the unique folk customs and bad habits in Yanbei.Second,The character of Yanbei farmers for thousands of years: Cao naiqian reproduces the Yanbei farmers’ characters in his novels,including attached to the land and unwilling to move and the good and evil of human nature are interwined.The farmers in Yanbei are rooted in the rural area of Yanbei,and they have an inseparable attachment to the land and countryside.Moreover,the isolated rural area of Yanbei has made Yanbei people still have a deep-rooted feudal consciousness for thousands of years,they also adhere to the root of human nature under the influence of Shanxi’s culture of integrity and benevolence.Third,The local characteristics of Yanbei from the perspective of local "narrative" : this part mainly from the point of view of Narratology,and this paper highlights the local characteristics of Yanbei by discussing the narrative strategy of Cao Naiqian’s novels.This paper mainly discusses the narrative language,narrative perspective,narrative structure and narrative techniques of novels to explore the unique local conditions and customs of Yanbei and reveal the misfortune and sufferings of the local people of Yanbei.In a word,Cao Naiqian created his own taste of Yanbei by using a series of exquisite narrative strategies.The epilogue summarizes the significance and value of Cao Naiqian and his novels.So as to provide reference and reference for future writers,researcher fully affirms his literary achievements and excavates some shortcomings in his writing path.
