| With the global economic integration,the participation of Chinese enterprises in international competition is on the rise.As the legal basis and guide for tendering and bidding activities,the translation quality of bidding documents plays a vital role in the effective development of bidding activities.This is a report on the E-C translation practice of “Request for Proposals(RFP)For Design,Build and Operate(DBO)Contract for Pagla Sewage Treatment Plant”undertaken by the author during her internship.Firstly,the author reviews the background and significance of the project and summarizes the process of the translation project.Secondly,under the guidance of Skopos theory,the author analyzes the difficulties in translation via examples and offers reasonable approaches to translation on three aspects,namely textual features,lexical characteristics and syntactic structures,which is the focus of the whole report.The textual feature lies in its informativity and preciseness.The difficulties in translation are clarified into two categories: lexically,how to translate specialization of common nouns,conventional modal verbs and nominalization of verbs properly and syntactically,how to deal with passive sentences and compound sentences with flexible translation strategies such as literal translation,addition and conversion in order to achieve the expected purpose of the target text.Through the summary of translation practice,it is hoped that this report offers translators some referential value in terms of the contract translation. |
