| Self-regulation and language learning motivation have always been the research focus of second language acquisition,but previous studies have focused on classroom learning scenario,and there are relatively few studies based on online learning.Nowadays,with the advancement of online learning platforms and tools,the learning methods of English learners are no longer limited to classroom learning.Online learning has become one of the main learning methods for English learners,so the online self-regulation of English learners is particularly important for effective learning to happen.Therefore,this research explores the profiles and differences of online self-regulation of college English learners;in addition,because English learning motivation is closely related to students’ online self-regulation,this research takes English learning motivation as independent variable and online self-regulation profiles as dependent variables to reveal the relationship between English learning motivation and online self-regulation profiles.This research focuses on the following two research questions:1.Are there different profiles of online self-regulation for college English learners? If so,what are the characteristics of these profiles?2.What is the relationship between English learning motivation and online self-regulation profiles?In order to answer the above questions,this study took 342 students from a provincial university in Nanchang,Jiangxi Province,as the research objects,and investigated their online self-regulation and English learning motivation through a questionnaire survey method.The following research results were obtained:First,through latent profile analysis,it is found that there are indeed three different profiles for online self-regulation of college English learners,namely high online SRL profile,median online SRL profile and low online SRL profile.Among them,the high online SRL profile has received high scores in all aspects of online self-regulation,demonstrating extremely high online self-regulatory capacity.Although the online self-regulatory capacity of median online SRL profile and low online SRL profile is relatively low,the members of these two profiles accounts for88.5% of the total.Secondly,the self-determination motivation of college English learners is significantly positively correlated with their online self-regulatory capacity.In addition,the external regulation,intrinsic motivation-stimulation and intrinsic motivation-accomplishment in self-determination motivation can effectively predict the online self-regulation profiles membership of college English learners.Finally,the research results show that there are different profiles of online self-regulation of college English learners,and English learning motivation is significantly correlated with the profiles of online self-regulation.From this point of view,in the process of English teaching,teachers need to identify students’ online self-regulation profiles and English learning motivation to provide targeted guidance. |
