As a representative of Western Marxism,Marcuse’s critical theory of developed industrial society has always given philosophical thinking and practical significance to the contemporary era. This paper attempts to comprehensively discuss Marcuse’s rational view from three aspects: theoretical tracing, core content analysis, and theoretical evaluation of his rational view,to understand the theoretical and practical significance of his critical theory of developed industrial society. This paper mainly explains and grasps Marcuse’s rational view from three parts. The first is to trace the theoretical of Marcuse’s rational view. The theoretical origin is mainly discussed from the influence of Hegel,Marx and Freud on Marcuse. The second is to analyze the basic connotation of Marcuse’s rationality, mainly from three aspects: value rationality(negative rationality),instrumental rationality(affirmative rationality),and new rationality.Negative rationality, that is,negative thinking,is the core of Markov’s rationality, and its value lies in "sublation";positive rationality is its collective term for the combination of scientific and technological rationality and instrumental rationality, positive rationality is the object of Markov’s criticism;the new rationality is Marcuse’s social critical theoretical conception, namely prescriptions, consists of restoring the negative thinking of value rationality and adding new rationality with connotations such as art and humanistic feelings. The third is a critique of Marcuse’s rationality. This part mainly analyzes and criticizes from the perspective of the history of philosophy and its influence on Foucault.Marcuse’s view of rationality eventually moved towards irrationalism, but as a philosophical reflection on the philosophical dilemma and the dilemma of human civilization in the 20 th century,it has great philosophical significance in theory and practice.Just like the "negation" that he himself studied, perhaps his own social critical theory for the treatment of advanced industrial societies has finally proved to be a failure in practice. However, from the meaning of Marx’s practical philosophy,Marcuse’s efforts to construct The revolutionary theory that takes human freedom and consciousness as its subjectivity is still a theoretical force that transcends modern philosophy.
