| Social mindfulness,as an important prosocial way, refers to the behavior that individuals consciously pay attention to,respect and leave the right of choice to others in interpersonal interaction, which plays an important role in improving interpersonal relationship and establishing intimate relationship. In view of the newness of the concept, the current studies on social mindfulness seldom explore what factors will affect it.Summing up previous studies,it is found that the sense of power may have a negative impact on the individual’s social mindfulness, and the high sense of power is easy to produce active orientation, which leads to individuals paying more attention to themselves and paying more attention to their own feelings. In addition, previous studies have shown that the behavior of power holders may be regulated by individual personality characteristics, such as dominant motivation. On this basis, the two major research questions raised in this study are the influence of the sense of power on social mindfulness and the regulatory role of dominant motivation in it.This study takes college students as subjects, including three studies.Among them, study 1 aims to explore the relationship between the sense of power and social mindfulness, using the paper version of the questionnaire survey.A total of 204 valid questionnaires were collected in Jiangxi normal University, including 110 boys and 94 girls. The long-term power state of the subjects was measured by the self-rating power scale and the So Mi paradigm of preference control was used to measure the index of social mindfulness. The results show that there is a significant negative correlation between individual general sense of power and social mindfulness behavior index. The purpose of this study is to explore the causal relationship between personal power and social mindfulness, and to understand whether there is any difference in the social mindfulness behavior of the specific object(that is,the other person in the interaction)when the subjects have or lack of power.A total of 120 subjects, including 58 boys and 62 girls, were recruited in the single-factor(sense of power: High vs.Low)experimental design. The index of social mindfulness was measured by role-playing method to temporarily activate the sense of power and preference control So Mi paradigm. The results showed that the index of social mindfulness behavior under the condition of high power priming was significantly lower than that of social mindfulness behavior under low power priming condition.Study 2 supports the results of study 1.Study 3 aims to repeatedly verify the results of study 1 and study 2,to further analyze the influence of the sense of power on the social mindfulness behavior that generally refers to others(that is,abstract others outside the interaction),and to explore the regulatory role of dominant motivation.Study 3 was using the 2factors(sense of power level: High vs.Low)×2(dominant motivation:High vs.Low)between subjects design, recruited 316 subjects, remove 24 subjects who did not complete the experiment, effective number of participants is 292,including 101 boys,girls,191 people, were operated by recall sense of power and dominant motivation inventory control measurements were dominant motivation and preference So Mi paradigm measuring social good thoughts,The results show that the sense of power inhibitions social mindfulness behavior while the dominant motivation moderates the influence of the sense of power on social mindfulness behavior.Specifically, under the condition of low sense of power, the social mindfulness behavior index of individuals with high dominant motivation was significantly lower than that of individuals with low dominant motivation. However, under the condition of high sense of power, the social mindfulness behavior index of individuals with low and low dominant motivation was significantly lower.Through three studies, this paper explores the relationship between the sense of power and social mindfulness and the possible moderating role of dominant motivation. The results show that :(1)the sense of power has a significant negative effect on social mindfulness behavior.(2)The influence of sense of power on social mindfulness behavior was moderated by dominant motivation, that is,the influence of sense of power on social mindfulness behavior was significantly affected by low dominant motivation, but the influence was not significantly affected by high dominant motivation. These findings expand the scope of previous studies on the influence of power on prosocial behavior, and play a certain role in the practice of how individuals, organizations and society promote social mindfulness behavior. |
