A Report On The Translation Of Earthquake Hazard,Risk And Disasters (Excerpt)

In the past few years,some megaearthquakes have caused hundreds of thousands of deaths because of natural changes and human activities.Faced with the increasing number of earthquakes around the world and the accompanying hazards,risk and disasters,every country is looking for tools and methods to reduce earthquake damage.The translation text is excerpted from the first two chapters of Earthquake Hazard,Risk and Disasters.After finishing the translation,the author completed this report based on Catford’s translation shift theory and on the experience of translation practice.The main content of this translation practice report is the perception and accumulation of the translation of EST about earthquake disasters,which is divided into four parts: the first part is the task description,which mainly includes background,objectives,and significance.The second part is the process description of the translation,which mainly includes pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation proofreading.The third part is case analysis,focusing on discussing the specific translation phenomenon in the structure shift,unit shift and category shift at the lexical,syntactic,grammatical level under the guidance of translation shift theory.The last part summarizes some conclusions and lessons learned from this translation project.At the same time,applying translation shifts theory to scientific translation to choose translation strategy,which is not only more in line with Chinese expression habits,but also improves the quality of translation and is easy for readers to understand.
