Literary translation has always been an important part of translation. With the continuous deepening of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, the amount of literary translation has increased greatly.A novel consists of a group of events while a clause expresses an event. From the perspective of aspectual construal, this paper first explains the definition and types of aspect and aspectual construal, and then uses the Chinese translation of The Siege at Whale Cay as a case to find out the features of the aspectual sectioning of event in English-Chinese translation. In specific, there are two types of aspectual sectioning of event: zero re-construal and aspectual reconstrual.Aspectual re-construal can be subdivided into the following shifts: endingto-continual shift;continual-to-ending shift;continual-to-inceptive shift;inceptive-tocontinual shift;inceptive-to-ending shift;the restructuring of verbal aspect.Through theoretical foundations, specific examples and corresponding translation analysis, this paper aims to show the multiple possibilities of the aspectual sectioning of event in translation, and provide a new direction and inspiration for translators.
