Analyzing English Translation Strategy About Culture-loaded Words In Rice By Su Tong

The thesis takes Su Tong’s Rice and its English version by Howard·Goldblatt as the research objects.From the perspective of Five Culture Systems of Eugene·A·Nida,the author analyzes the original text and translation in the terms of material,ecology,society and religion and language culture-loaded words in order to reveal the translator’s translation strategies of the culture in Rice.In the paper,the author find that when dealing with most of the culture-loaded words,Howard can express Su Tong’s original meaning and also make the Western readers feel the traditional Chinese culture;but when translating some material and language culture-loaded words,because of some untranslatable factors,the translator did not present the original language form and Chinese culture.The study of the English translation of Su Tong’s novels can help give suggestions for translating Su Tong’s novels and avent-garde novels and make the Chinese culture and literature go global.
