Research On The Origin And Development Of "The Key Is To Have Ancient Meaning"

Zhao Mengfu is an important figure in the history of Chinese painting.He has made great achievements in calligraphy,landscape,flowers and birds,characters,literature,appreciation and collection.His paintings inherited from Tang and Song Dynasties,and started from Ming and Qing Dynasties.Later,he was regarded as "the crown of Yuan Dynasty".His painting of flowers and birds has also made great achievements,because his thought of "the key is to have ancient meaning" and the theory of "painting and calligraphy are the same" have played a very good leading role in it.Although the idea of "the key is to have ancient meaning" is a postscript of Zhao Mengfu’s landscape painting,we can see that all his expositions and posthumous title of "Wenmin" are the core idea of his literature and art and his lifelong pursuit of literature and art.It had a great influence on the literature and art at that time and led the development of Chinese painting in the Yuan Dynasty.Under the impact of foreign culture and the decline of local culture,it plays an important role in the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional culture.This paper takes Zhao Mengfu’s idea of "the key is to have ancient meaning" in his paintings as the research object,and takes some flower and bird paintings of Tang and Song Dynasties with Zhao Mengfu’s postscript as the starting point.Combined with Zhao Mengfu’s works and his postscript,this paper analyzes the influence of flower and bird paintings of Tang and Song Dynasties on it from the aspects of diagram,style and postscript,and explores the connotation and formation reasons of "the key is to have ancient meaning" in Zhao Mengfu’s flower and bird paintings,And the influence on the development of flower and bird painting at that time and later.The author hopes that through the analysis of the thought of "the key is to have ancient meaning",it will be helpful to the research of the author’s own flower and bird painting theory,to inspire and guide the author’s future creation and exploration of flower and bird painting.
