| In recent years, the healthy and effective exchanges between countries in the world are facing major challenges because of populism and deglobalization.Under the grim international backdrop, intercultural communication becomes even more important. To further promote the study of intercultural communication, the author chooses Intercultural Communication by Everett M.Rogers and Thomas M.Steinfatt as the material for this translation practice. It includes three chapters: Chapter 1-Context and Communication,Chapter 4-Communication,and Chapter5-Verbal Communication. The book systematically introduces the basic theories of “Intercultural Communication”and is a basic reader for the intercultural communication student. As this book is about social science, its structure is well-organized,logically clear and well thought out.The language features are both scientific and artistic. Therefore, translators should pay more attention to the accurate transmission of information. In the process of translation, the author adopts communicative translation principles of Peter Newmark’s typology as the guidance, and analyses the translation strategies from vocabulary, sentence and discourse. The whole report includes five chapters: the first chapter is the task description, which is divided into the background of the project, the significance of the study and the structure of this report;the second chapter introduces the translation process, which mainly includes the preparation work, the specific translation process and the proofreading;the third chapter analyses the original texts and introduces the principles of communicative translation;the fourth chapter is the analysis of the cases under the guidance of the principles of communicative translation, mainly focusing on three major aspects: vocabulary, sentences and discourse.Lexical level includes three parts: term translation, amplification and omission, and conversion. In terms of sentences, the author mainly discusses translation skills, including syntactic linearity and hysteron proteron of passive sentences and negation. On the textual side, the author discusses the processing of paragraph reference and semantic coherence. The last part summarizes the author’s perceptions and experiences in the process of translation practice, including the problems and shortcomings. The appendix contains the original texts and translations. |
