William Faulkner is a representative of the "southern literature" genre in the United States since the 1920 s.His works take an important part in the territory of European and American literature and even world literature and become popular and classic.Faulkner has made fruitful attempts and innovations in the form of novels. His novels have a keen and profound insight into the society and history of the American South, expressing the author’s profound thinking about the destiny of mankind. In 1950,Faulkner was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his "powerful influence on contemporary American fiction and his unparalleled contribution to art."Academia has believed that Faulkner’s highest literary achievements are concentrated in the creation of his novels. However,Faulkner’s short stories as an important part of Faulkner’s creative art,the re-excavation and interpretation of them is also an understanding way to capture the full picture and value of Faulkner’s works.Throughout Faulkner’s short stories,we can see that Faulkner often uses the "children’s perspective" to narrate the story, and the children’s unique thinking characteristics and observation methods make the work present a unique narrative style and literary effect. This article takes the child’s perspective narrative in Faulkner’s short stories as the research object, and analyzes the specific textual performance of the child’s perspective in the novel, and then explores the artistic effect of the use of the child’s perspective in the novel and the reason why the writer uses the child’s perspective to create to further understand Faulkner’s thinking on issues such as racial discrimination and social alienation in the United States,as well as his humanitarian sentiments to sympathize with women and oppose war.The main body of the thesis is composed of four parts. The introduction part introduces William Faulkner’s life and novel creation process, the domestic and foreign dynamics of Faulkner’s research, and the purpose, significance and methods of this article’s research. In the first part of the first chapter, the term "children’s perspective" is conceptually defined and combed, and the second part is based on the narrative perspective, dividing the children’s perspective in Faulkner’s short stories into three types, and analyzing its textual performance in combination with the specific content of the relevant novels. The second chapter focuses on the literary aesthetic effects of "defamiliarization","polyphony","poetry" and “irony” that Faulkner achieved through the use of children’s perspective in the creation of his short stories. The third chapter digs into the deep meaning of Faulkner’s short stories from children’s perspective, that is,the writers embodied in these novels the nostalgia for the homeland, the compassion for the disadvantaged groups, and the thinking about the alienation of society and human nature. The fourth chapter further explores the reasons for the formation of Faulkner’s short stories from three aspects: the writer’s growth environment and childhood experience, the writer’s transcendental attempts at narrative techniques, and the influence of the American Southern Renaissance and modernist literature.Faulkner chose a unique children’s perspective to narrate in the creation of his short stories. He not only poured his own childhood experience and homeland feelings into the text, but also implied his own value persuasion and humanity care, which constituted his unique writing style. The meticulous and in-depth study of the children’s perspective of Faulkner’s short stories has provided us with a new way to explore Faulkner’s world. In this world, the image depicted in the novel is confirmed, deepened and extended, which is a necessary supplement to the study of Faulkner in China, especially the study of short stories.
