The material of this simulated interpreting practice is a public lecture entitled“Why Culture Matters: On the Need for a New Economics Model”,given by Professor Nathan Nunn of Harvard University.This lecture mainly studies the relationship between culture and economy.It helps the audience understand the new characteristics of the current cultural economy,and sorts out the new relationship between cultural development and economic growth.It is of certain theoretical and practical significance.This practice report summarizes the incoherence of the source language in the form of case study.For the incoherence occurred at the word level,interpreting techniques such as addition,omission and shift as well as the interpreting method like variation translation can be adopted;for the incoherence occurred at the syntactic level,interpreting techniques such as addition,omission and combination as well as the interpreting method like variation translation can be adopted;for the incoherence occurred at the sentence group level,interpreting techniques such as addition,omission and combination as well as the interpreting method like variation translation can be adopted.The incoherence in the source language often causes trouble in consecutive interpreting.Hopefully,the solutions provided by this practice report can be used as reference by other interpreters so as to improve the interpretation quality.
